Moses provides a stark choice: complete blessings for obedience (prosperity, rain, victory) and severe curses for disobedience (disease, drought, siege, famine, and exile by ship).

Moses renews the covenant, reminding the new generation that God led them through the wilderness for 40 years to teach them dependence on Him. He warns that God will destroy the entire land if they turn to idolatry.

Moses gives the final promise that if Israel is exiled for disobedience, they can still return to the Lord with all their heart. God promises to circumcise their hearts so they can love Him.

Moses, now 120, officially transfers leadership to Joshua. He commands the priests to read the Law publicly every seven years and charges Joshua to be strong and courageous.

Moses delivers the Song of Moses, a long poem recounting God's faithfulness, Israel's rebellion, and God's eventual, merciful judgment and final redemption of His people.

Moses delivers his final blessings over each of the twelve tribes of Israel before his death, promising them prosperity and protection in the Promised Land.

Moses is shown the entire Promised Land from the top of Mount Nebo. Moses dies there at the age of 120, and Joshua takes over leadership, full of the spirit of wisdom.

God commissions Joshua to lead Israel, commanding him to be strong and courageous. God promises to be with Joshua always, requiring him to meditate on the Book of the Law day and night.

Joshua sends two spies to Jericho. They are hidden by Rahab, a prostitute who asks for protection for her family in return. Rahab hangs a scarlet cord from her window as a sign.

The priests carry the Ark of the Covenant into the raging Jordan River. The waters miraculously stop flowing, and the Israelites cross safely on dry ground, fulfilling God's promise.

The Israelites set up twelve stones taken from the Jordan River as a memorial. Joshua emphasizes this act will teach future generations that the power of the Lord dried up the Jordan.

All the men born during the wilderness wanderings are circumcised. Joshua meets the Commander of the Lord's Army (likely a pre-incarnate Christ) near Jericho and bows in worship.
