King Jehoshaphat foolishly makes an alliance with the wicked King Ahab of Israel. Only the prophet Micaiah warns them of coming defeat, but Ahab is killed in battle.
The prophet Jehu rebukes King Jehoshaphat for allying with the wicked. Jehoshaphat appoints honest judges and priests throughout the land, establishing justice and true worship.
When a massive army from Moab and Ammon invades, King Jehoshaphat leads Judah in a national prayer and fasting. God grants a miraculous victory by having the enemy armies destroy each other.
King Jehoram of Judah marries Ahab’s daughter, Athaliah, leading to wickedness and murder. The prophet Elijah sends a letter prophesying a deadly plague on Jehoram and his family.
Ahaziah reigns wickedly for only one year. His mother, Athaliah (Ahab’s daughter), murders all the royal heirs in Judah except Joash, seizing the throne for herself.
The priest Jehoiada organizes a coup, reveals the young heir, Joash, and has him anointed as king. The wicked Queen Athaliah is captured and executed.
King Joash successfully repairs the Temple. After the priest Jehoiada dies, Joash abandons God, leading the people to idolatry. Joash kills the prophet Zechariah and is later assassinated.
King Amaziah of Judah defeats Edom but then foolishly brings back the idols of Edom to worship. A prophet warns him, and Amaziah is later captured by Israel and killed by a conspiracy.
King Uzziah reigns successfully, strengthening Judah with military power and prosperity. His pride leads him to illegally offer incense in the Temple, and he is immediately struck with leprosy.
King Jotham reigns faithfully and strengthens the Temple, leading to prosperity. He successfully defeats the Ammonites, forcing them to pay a substantial annual tribute.
King Ahaz of Judah plunges the nation into deep idolatry, sacrificing his own children. God allows the northern kingdom of Israel and the Syrians to severely defeat Judah.
King Hezekiah leads a massive spiritual revival, immediately reopening and purifying the Temple, restoring the Levitical service, and celebrating the atonement sacrifices.
