Jacob delivers his final, powerful prophetic blessings and judgments over his twelve sons, foretelling the destiny of the twelve tribes. He prophesies that the Messiah will come through the line of Judah.

Jacob is buried with honor in Canaan. Joseph assures his fearful brothers that they meant it for evil, but God meant it for good. Joseph dies, making the Israelites promise to carry his bones out of Egypt.

Decades after Joseph's death, the Israelites multiply rapidly, filling the land. A new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph fears their numbers and makes them slaves.

A Hebrew mother hides her baby, Moses, in a basket on the Nile River. Pharaoh’s daughter rescues him. Moses later flees Egypt after killing an Egyptian overseer.

God appears to Moses in a burning bush on Mount Horeb. God reveals His sacred name, I AM WHO I AM, and commissions Moses to lead Israel out of slavery.

Moses doubts his calling, so God gives him three miraculous signs. God provides Aaron to be Moses's spokesman, and the two return to Egypt to face Pharaoh.

Moses and Aaron demand Pharaoh let God's people go. Pharaoh responds by refusing and increasing the slaves' work burden, forcing them to make bricks without straw.

God assures Moses of His covenant promise, revealing His name Yahweh (LORD) and promising to deliver Israel with mighty acts of judgment against Egypt.

Moses and Aaron confront Pharaoh. God hardens Pharaoh's heart as Aaron throws down his staff, which turns into a snake. The first plague turns the Nile River into blood.

God sends the second, third, and fourth plagues: masses of frogs, gnats (which magicians cannot replicate), and swarms of flies, all of which only affect the Egyptians.

God sends the fifth and sixth plagues: a fatal livestock disease and painful boils on the people and animals. The seventh plague sends devastating thunder and hail.

God sends the eighth and ninth plagues: a massive swarm of locusts that devour all vegetation, followed by three days of suffocating darkness over all of Egypt.
