Jealous brothers sell Joseph, their father's favorite, into slavery for twenty pieces of silver. They trick Jacob into believing a wild animal killed his beloved son.
This pivotal chapter leaves Joseph's story to focus on Judah and his righteous daughter-in-law, Tamar, securing the necessary lineage for the future Messiah.

Jacob is overjoyed to learn Joseph is alive. God assures Jacob He will make him a great nation in Egypt. Jacob and his entire family (70 people) move to Goshen.
Joseph presents his family to Pharaoh, who grants them the fertile land of Goshen. Joseph manages the famine brilliantly, consolidating all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh.
Jacob, near death, adopts Joseph's two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. Jacob purposefully gives the main blessing to the younger son, Ephraim, reaffirming God’s sovereign choice.
